The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, recently made a statement during a public gathering in Bihar’s Hisua, claiming that “riots don’t take place under the BJP rule.” This comment was met with criticism from Rajya Sabha member and renowned attorney, Kapil Sibal. Sibal took to Twitter to post statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which showed that “communal riots” had occurred in BJP-ruled areas such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. He called Shah’s statement “another jumla,” urging the public to stop “burning Bengal and Bihar” and sowing seeds of hatred.

Sibal also stated that politicians and political ideologies primarily benefit from this hostility, while the common man suffers. He called on the Prime Minister and Home Minister to address these riots. Meanwhile, on March 31, there were reports of clashes in the Rohtas district’s Sasaram and Nalanda’s Bihar Sharif, where Shah was said to be. However, Shah’s trip to Sasaram was cancelled due to the implementation of Section 144 in response to fighting in the area. Shah had urged attendees at the gathering to vote for the BJP in Bihar’s 2025 assembly elections, promising to hang rioters upside down if elected.
