The National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM) in Hyderabad recently hosted its 2nd National Conference on Medical Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing). The conference focused on the use of 3D printing in dental and medical implants, medical devices, orthotics and prosthetics, and bio-materials. Over 250 medical professionals from across India attended, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Emerging Technologies Wing, as well as representatives from global companies such as Hewlett Packard, GE, and Materialise NV.

The conference featured sessions by international experts on various medical additive manufacturing topics. During the event, Saveer Matrix Nano, a company incubated at NCAM, unveiled a 100% made-in-India powder for dental applications named “Orthodon-Ti”. The NCAM aims to promote the adoption of additive manufacturing in India by building a comprehensive ecosystem that enables indigenization, provides access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, supports research and development, and promotes skill development activities to generate quality manpower.

NCAM collaborated with local medical ecosystem partners in India like CDSCO and AMTZ to make the conference a success. The vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat is to push the limits of localisation in the country through its startups and partners. The CEO of NCAM, Shri Jaspreet Sidhu, said that medical 3D printing has the potential to revolutionize healthcare in India due to the demand for personalized healthcare solutions, advancements in technology, and increasing awareness of 3D printing’s benefits.
