Voter enrolment camps will be held at every polling station in Telangana on October 15 and 16 to help eligible people missing from the draft electoral rolls apply for enrolment. Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy issued the instructions after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the rolls.
The camps will assist people who were left out during the revision, including first-time and young voters. A door-to-door verification exercise will also identify eligible residents whose names are missing and help them submit applications.
A memo issued on October 13 asks booth-level officers (BLOs) to compare the current electoral rolls with the SIR rolls, identify missing names and visit the concerned voters. BLOs must assist eligible people in filling out Form 6, the application for enrolment as a voter.
BLOs are expected to cover around 20 to 25 electors each week and complete the exercise in about a month. They must record each voter’s status, note whether a Form 6 application has been filed and share the details with political parties’ booth-level agents (BLAs).
Applications and verification reports will be sent to electoral registration officers (EROs). Officials said submitting Form 6 will not automatically restore a name to the rolls. EROs will decide on enrolment under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
After verification, booth-wise lists will be shared with political parties. Reddy directed BLOs and BLAs to be present at all polling-station camps on October 15 and 16.
