Approval for the Northern section of Telangana’s Regional Ring Road (RRR) has remained pending with the Central Cabinet for nearly six months. The proposed six-lane, access-controlled greenfield expressway is awaiting final clearance.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has raised objections after complaints alleged large-scale land transactions and real estate speculation during the route-alignment process. The complaints concern deals made while the alignment was being planned.
A similar issue has affected the Jaipur Regional Ring Road project in Rajasthan, according to the information provided on the project’s status. The concerns have left the Northern RRR’s approval pending.
Tenders for the Telangana project have been called three times in the past two years, but final permission has not been granted. Meanwhile, about 90.1% of the required land acquisition has been completed, with awards sanctioned for ₹1,292.5 crore.
State officials are seeking clarity on whether the Centre will approve the project with its current alignment or ask for changes in response to the land-transaction complaints. The recorded land acquisition progress stands at 90.1%.
