The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved two major projects for South Central Railway. The projects are the doubling of the Mudkhed-Medchal and Mahbubnagar-Dhone sections, as well as the Guntur-Bibinagar section. These projects will allow for the introduction of new trains and increased freight transportation, benefiting the Telugu States. They will also promote economic development and improve mobility for goods and people.

The doubling of the Mudkhed-Dhone section is estimated to cost Rs. 4686.09 crore, while the doubling of the Guntur-Bibinagar section is estimated to cost Rs. 2,853.23 crore. The construction of these projects will provide employment opportunities for approximately 75 lakh men, according to Arun Kumar Jain, the SCR general manager.

The doubling of the Mudkhed-Dhone section will help alleviate traffic congestion between Balharshah-Kazipet-Secunderabad and Kazipet-Vijayawada. It will also serve as an alternative route for coal and steel transportation between Balharshah, Ramagundam, Secunderabad, Wadi, and Guntakal. This will reduce congestion on the busy route and improve transportation between the southern and northern regions of India.
