Hyderabad: State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged officials to collaborate effectively to ensure the city’s residents face no issues during the monsoon season.

On Sunday, he led a meeting at the GHMC head office with Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi to review safety measures within the Outer Ring Road. The goal was to prevent public inconvenience, control seasonal diseases, and tackle monsoon challenges. Officials from various departments like GHMC, HYDRAA, HMWSSB, Traffic Police, Electricity, and Irrigation participated.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan presented ongoing efforts to address rainy season challenges. This includes road repairs, building stormwater drains, de-silting, installing catch pits, and road safety initiatives. HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy mentioned identifying areas where sewage and stormwater mix, with plans to separate them to prevent overflow.

Minister Prabhakar emphasized the need for all departments, including Revenue and Lakes, to work together efficiently to avoid public inconvenience. Coordination is vital for quickly resolving issues, and he stated that GHMC should lead these efforts.

He instructed that all officers must stay alert during the monsoon, canceling leave as necessary. Departments need to act decisively during crises. The Minister promised to be available at all times until the monsoon ends, ready to address any government-level issues.

Strict actions were ordered against those dumping waste into water bodies, and proactive steps are needed to prevent seasonal diseases. The Minister highlighted that conserving rainwater is a shared duty of both the administration and the public. GHMC, HYDRAA, and HMWSSB were tasked with creating detailed water management plans, promoting rainwater harvesting, and increasing public awareness.

Speaking to the press, Minister Prabhakar assured that the government is dedicated to minimizing monsoon disruptions. The Chief Minister had already set clear instructions to avoid loss of life or property this season.

Although heavy rains are causing flooding and traffic issues in some areas, the Minister revealed a master plan in progress to permanently address these problems. The meeting included HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Joel Davis, Zonal Commissioners, and other senior officials.
