In Gadwal, a dedicated social worker named Uppala Mudiraj Shankara Anna has made a significant impact in his community. Despite his simple living conditions in a thatched hut, he has funded numerous projects in Uppala village to improve local infrastructure.
S. Ramachandra Reddy, the BJP Jogulamba Gadwal District Local Bodies Convener, recently honored Shankara Anna for his service. Reddy praised him for personally financing projects like building drainage systems, developing soak pits, laying cement roads, and installing water tanks. These efforts, involving the use of JCBs and dozers, have cost Shankara Anna nearly ₹12 lakh. His work benefits not only Uppala village but also neighboring areas like Aija.
Reddy encouraged villagers and society to support selfless individuals like Shankara Anna. He urged others to emulate such dedication to community service.
Additionally, Reddy criticized the state Congress government for postponing local body elections, which has halted funds from the 15th Finance Commission and slowed rural development. He pressed for immediate elections for MPTC, ZPTC, Sarpanch, and Municipal positions to release central funds and boost development in villages and towns.
The event celebrating Shankara Anna’s contributions saw participation from BJP Mandal President Gopalakrishna, Aija Town Vice Presidents Lakshman Goud and Nagaraj Swamy, District Council Member Pradeep Swamy, and many local villagers.
