Hyderabad: On Thursday, BRS MPs raised concerns in Rajya Sabha about the unauthorized use of Godavari River water by Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari – Banakacherla Project is diverting water to other river basins.
BRS MP KR Suresh Reddy requested a special discussion on this topic for August 6, 2025. He asked to suspend the regular agenda in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to address this issue.
Reddy emphasized that the Andhra Pradesh government’s actions harm Telangana by taking away their rightful share of water. He stated this has been a long-standing concern for Telangana and deserves immediate attention.
Another MP, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, accused the Andhra Pradesh government of constructing the Banakacherla project without approval from key authorities like the Central Water Commission and the Godavari River Management Board. He urged that this matter be discussed urgently. However, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh refused the motion.
