Hyderabad – A recent incident during the Miss World event in Telangana has sparked anger and disappointment, especially among leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The controversy began when Dalit and tribal women were reportedly asked to wash the feet of beauty pageant contestants, an act that many believe deeply insulted the dignity of the state’s women.
Several BRS women leaders have spoken out strongly, calling the act humiliating and unacceptable. They said it has hurt the self-respect of Telangana and demanded immediate action.
In response, the leaders wrote a letter to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, urging her to step in. They criticized the Telangana Congress government for allowing such an incident to happen and asked for steps to restore the honor of the women involved.
Former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy, Satyavati Rathod, Sunita Laxma Reddy, and MLA Kova Laxmi led the protest. They demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the disrespect shown to marginalized women.
The BRS leaders also met with the State Women’s Commission to file a formal complaint and push for accountability. They stressed that such incidents should never be repeated and called for stronger safeguards to protect women’s dignity in public events.
The issue has triggered widespread public outrage across Telangana, with many calling it a setback for social equality and women’s rights in the state.
