Hyderabad: On Monday, the state cabinet will discuss the Justice PC Ghose Commission’s findings on alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation (KLIS) project. Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy confirmed this on Sunday, stating that the cabinet will make a final decision after thoroughly reviewing the report. The report highlights cost overruns and mismanagement during the BRS government’s time.

During a Sunday event in Peddapalli district, the Minister criticized the Kaleshwaram project. He claimed that Rs one lakh crore had been wasted, and the Medigadda barrage hadn’t provided any benefits. Despite passing through Manthani constituency, the project hasn’t irrigated even one acre there. Yet, Telangana achieved record paddy production, proving that agriculture doesn’t rely solely on Kaleshwaram.

The Minister stressed that his comments are fact-based, not just political attacks on opponents.

Monday’s cabinet meeting aligns with the plan to hold bi-monthly meetings to speed up policy execution and enhance governance. Previously, the Telangana cabinet decided on a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local elections and MBBS admissions for native students. The Supreme Court will address the prioritization of Telangana natives in medical college admissions on Tuesday.

The cabinet will also discuss the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme and issues affecting government employees, based on a report by a three-member committee. Discussions will include the finalization of the Indiramma Housing scheme and housing distribution across Telangana.

Additionally, the cabinet is expected to consider a new paddy procurement policy and support measures for families affected by the Musi rejuvenation project.
