Hyderabad is known for its diverse culture, attracting both global companies and local businesses for years. Despite occasional unrest due to political tensions, the city has consistently supported various business ventures, whether individual, partnership, or corporate.
Recently, a minor parking dispute between two people has escalated into a larger issue targeting the Marwari community. Activists have even urged members of this community to leave, and this sentiment has spread across the state.
Business leaders and community members are now working to maintain the peace and unity that Hyderabad and Telangana are known for. They caution against political manipulation of the incident for divisive purposes, emphasizing that such disputes should not disrupt the region’s harmony.
R. Ravi Kumar, president of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), emphasized resolving such issues peacefully. He urged political figures not to use the incident to gain communal or political advantage, highlighting the danger of dividing communities.
Other business figures share this view. Sudarshan M, a chartered accountant, mentioned that many of his clients are from the Marwari community, asserting their right to live and work anywhere in India. Bose Babu, a TCS team leader, called the calls for community expulsion absurd, stressing the importance of unity.
Kamal Jain, director of Cargomen Logistics and chairman of FTCCI’s Shipping and Logistics Committee, praised the Marwari community for their economic contributions to Hyderabad, including job creation and industry support. He stressed the need for unity and collaboration.
Vineet Suman Darda of Darda Advisors LLP warned against politicizing the situation, noting the community’s role in employing and supporting local people. He urged the government to prevent harmful narratives from spreading.
Both leaders and citizens insist that Hyderabad’s identity as a welcoming and inclusive city should remain intact, unaffected by minor incidents.
