Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed the creation of a detailed plan to protect cows in Telangana. He wants modern cow shelters built in four key areas.
A three-member team will thoroughly research how to set up these shelters. They will also review cow protection methods in other states. The team includes Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department; Shailaja Ramaiyar, Principal Secretary of the Endowments Department; and Raghunandan Rao, Secretary of the Agriculture Department.
To improve cow welfare, Chief Minister Reddy has ordered the construction of advanced shelters in four locations. These sites include Vemulawada, known for the ‘Kode Mokku’ ritual where calves are donated; Yadagirigutta; Yenkepally near Hyderabad; and the Animal Husbandry University.
In a recent review, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of cow protection, highlighting cultural values and the feelings of devotees. He noted the high death rates of cows in shelters due to limited space and other issues.
Reddy emphasized the need to care for calves donated by pilgrims with great devotion. He instructed the development of a 100-acre cow shelter in Vemulawada.
The Chief Minister assured that the government is ready to allocate sufficient funds for cow protection. During the meeting, officials presented a management plan for the cow shelters to him.
