Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will start work on the Godavari Drinking Water Scheme Phases II & III on Monday. This is part of a plan costing Rs 8,858 crore to improve water supply in the city.

The focus is on bringing fresh water to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar as part of the Musi river project. The state will do this using the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), investing Rs 7,360 crore. The government will provide 40% of the funds, and the contractor will cover 60%. The project is set to finish in two years.

About 20 TMC of water will come from the Mallanna Sagar reservoir. Out of this, 2.5 TMC will help fill the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar for the Musi project. The remaining 17.50 TMC will serve Hyderabad’s drinking water needs and fill seven lakes. This project aims to meet the city’s water needs by December 2027, ensuring daily water supply.
