Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santosh has instructed agriculture officials to ensure fertilizers, especially urea, are delivered to farmers promptly and fairly.
During a meeting on Wednesday at the IDOC Conference Hall, the Collector discussed the district’s crop coverage, urea stock, and sales. He emphasized that the current 543 metric tonnes of urea should be distributed properly to the farmers who need it. He warned of strict consequences for any distribution irregularities.
The Collector insisted that all new urea supplies in the district must be distributed through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), not private agro-retail shops. Mandal agriculture officers were told to compare this year’s urea use with last year’s and investigate any unusual spikes in consumption reported by PACS or retailers.
He pointed out that 600 metric tonnes more urea have been sold this year than last year, but shortages are still reported by farmers. An investigation is underway to understand the reasons for this.
The Collector highlighted the need to prevent any malpractice in fertilizer distribution. Officials were ordered to closely monitor supplies to avoid diversion. Farmers were advised to buy only the necessary amount instead of stockpiling.
To enhance monitoring, the Collector directed that an Agricultural Extension Officer be placed at every PACS to ensure proper urea distribution. He stated that once a farmer receives his share, additional supplies should not be collected repeatedly.
The meeting was attended by District Agriculture Officer Sakriya Naik, ADA Sangeeta Lakshmi, mandal agriculture officers, and other officials.
