Mahabubnagar: The Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded the cancellation of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, labeling it inefficient and costly for taxpayers. CPI leaders suggested the Congress government reconsider the Pranahita-Chevella project at Tummidi Hatti, arguing it would be more economical and effective in resolving water issues in Adilabad and nearby areas.
During a press event following the CPI’s 100th anniversary celebrations in Mahabubnagar, CPI (ML) MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao criticized the previous BRS government for its management of the Kaleshwaram project. He specifically targeted former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for arriving at the Justice P.C. Ghose-led inquiry commission in Hyderabad with over 100 vehicles, describing it as an extravagant show of power.
“He approached the commission like he was headed to battle,” said Sambasiva Rao. “Democracy is being overshadowed by mob rule. KCR acts more like a gang leader than a responsible politician,” he remarked, advising the BRS leader to approach the commission with humility, as past Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers have done.
The CPI leader also called for a swift investigation into the Kaleshwaram project’s structural issues and financial mismanagement, urging accountability. “The public deserves to know who is responsible for the failure of this grand but flawed project,” he stated.
Sambasiva Rao reiterated the CPI’s preference for the Pranahita-Chevella project, originally planned at Tummidi Hatti. “It is more practical, cost-efficient, and can fulfill the irrigation needs of drought-affected regions like Adilabad,” he emphasized, urging the Congress-led state government to prioritize this overdue initiative.
