Hyderabad: Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, a former Indian Foreign Service officer and ambassador, praised journalists for their fearless reporting on Muslim and cultural matters. He encouraged seasoned journalists to mentor newcomers at an event held at the Media Plus Auditorium, where Mir Ayoob Ali Khan and Aziz Ahmed were honored for their 50-year careers.
The Media Plus Foundation and Gawah Urdu Weekly organized the ceremony. Dr. Sayeed emphasized the importance of education, particularly for women, stating that educated women ensure their children are educated too.
He presented mementos and shawls to the honored journalists. Afreen Khundmiri, daughter of the late Talib Khundmiri, engaged the audience by reciting her father’s poem, “Time Capsule.” Syed Khaled Shahbaaz skillfully managed the event proceedings.
Dr. Sayeed also stressed economic empowerment, highlighting entrepreneurs and scientists as key figures. He plans to use his websites, IndianMuslims.com and MuslimWoman.com, to document Muslim journalists’ contributions since 1857. He reflected on his career, emphasizing hard work and value over background.
Mir Ayoob Ali Khan shared his journey from working at Daily News for Rs 100 a month to covering conflict zones for 17 years with Saudi Gazette. He now works at Siasat.com and urged more Muslim participation in journalism and education.
Aziz Ahmed recounted his start with part-time writing at Bharat News and Blitz before moving to Etemaad Daily. He advised aspiring journalists to give their best, assuring that recognition will follow.
The event was attended by notable figures including Amirullah Khan, a former civil servant, Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez, Chief Editor of Gawah Urdu Weekly, Khaja Naseruddin, Administrator of Dr. VRK Women’s Medical College, and Dr. Abid Moiz.
