Hyderabad is working on a plan to stop flooding from the Musi River and its branches. These waterways pass through the Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR) and connect many lakes and water bodies. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has created a detailed Storm Water Master Plan to tackle this issue.

The GHMC’s plan covers the entire TCUR. Its goal is to build a reliable storm water drainage system. This system aims to reduce urban flooding and keep residents safe.

GHMC states the Storm Water Master Plan will help prevent floods by studying drainage patterns and identifying potential flood zones. By doing this, the plan can pinpoint areas needing better drainage to reduce damage from heavy rain. It also targets sources of storm water pollution, using the best management practices to protect aquatic life by limiting pollutants in the water. Additionally, the plan suggests using green infrastructure, like rain gardens and bioswales, to handle storm water runoff and improve urban spaces.
