GHMC organizes dengue awareness rally in city

Hyderabad: On the occasion of National Dengue Day, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi urged the public to take responsibility for preventing the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue. She stressed that maintaining a clean environment is key to keeping these illnesses under control.

Alongside Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, the Mayor led a public awareness rally through different parts of the city. The event focused on educating residents about how to stop mosquito breeding. Volunteers handed out informative pamphlets with tips on how to stay safe and keep surroundings clean.

The Deputy Mayor highlighted that the main goal of this campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene. She encouraged people to keep their homes clean, remove stagnant water, cover water storage containers, and dispose of plastic and garbage properly.

Dengue is preventable, but if neglected, it can turn deadly,” said the Mayor. “By working together, we can protect our families and communities. A clean environment is everyone’s responsibility.”

GHMC teams are actively working every day to remove potential mosquito-breeding spots across the city. However, officials say real success depends on citizens taking action at home and in their neighborhoods.

Senior entomologist Durgaprasad emphasized the need for a united effort. “Fighting dengue isn’t just the government’s job. It takes teamwork between authorities, schools, social groups, and the public,” he said. “We all need to lead by example.”

Mayor Vijayalakshmi called on everyone to live by the motto: ‘Environmental cleanliness is our responsibility.’ She said this approach will help prevent not only dengue but also other mosquito-borne diseases like chikungunya and malaria.

The message was clear: every person can make a difference. By staying aware, acting responsibly, and joining hands, we can protect Hyderabad from dengue and ensure a healthier future for all.
