Hyderabad has approved an exciting new project. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will build a cable car connecting 7 Tombs and Golconda Fort. This initiative, first greenlit by the Tourism Department in 2021, aims to boost tourism in the area.

The 1.5-kilometer ropeway will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP), easing the financial load on HMDA. They have contracted Knight Frank, a real estate consultancy, to conduct a feasibility study. This study, expected within three to four months, will examine land use, resources, and right-of-way concerns.

Once operational, the ropeway will directly link these two historical sites, making travel easier for visitors. A detailed project report (DPR) will follow the feasibility study. The project is anticipated to cost approximately Rs 100 crore.

Ropeways are popular in tourist spots like Udaipur, Nalanda, Darjeeling, Shimla, and Mussoorie. However, unlike those, the Golconda-Qutb Shahi Tombs line will operate at lower altitudes. Officials believe it will significantly boost tourism once completed in two years.

The project promises to cut travel time between the sites to 5-10 minutes from the current 15-20 minutes by road during peak hours. It will feature terminals at the Golconda Fort entrance and the Qutub Shahi Tombs complex.

The cable car system is not only an innovative transport solution but also environmentally friendly. It minimizes ground disturbance, reduces travel time, and enhances the area’s tourism appeal.
