In Wanaparthy District, the Telangana State Government initiated a tree-planting event called Vana Mahotsavam. This event took place at the Eco Park in Wanaparthy town on Wednesday. Key figures like District Collector-in-charge Vijayendra Boi, Additional Collector Revenue G Venkateswarlu, Additional Collector Local Bodies In-charge Yadayya, and DFO Satyanarayana joined local legislators to plant saplings. The District Forest Department organized the event.
During the event, officials emphasized the importance of trees for human survival. They stressed the need to plant more trees and protect them. Currently, Wanaparthy has only 18-19% forest coverage, far below the ideal 33% required for ecological balance. The officials urged the community to work towards increasing this percentage.
Students were encouraged to take part by educating others on tree planting. They suggested planting trees in available spaces at homes and fields. Officials advised against covering porches with rocks or concrete, instead leaving room for greenery.
Planting trees was also suggested as a way to celebrate significant life events like marriages and birthdays. Vijayendra Boi highlighted that the Vana Mahotsavam aims to reduce air pollution and maintain ecological balance. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in the program.
The motto “Vrikshko Rakshita – Rakshitah” was cited, meaning “if we protect the trees, the trees will protect us.” This year, the district aims to plant 21 lakh saplings. Government departments, citizens, and students were called upon to meet this target by planting trees in available spaces, including in front of houses and in fields.
Participants, including Additional Collector Revenue G Venkateswarlu, Additional Collector Local Bodies In-charge Yadayya, DFO Satyanarayana, RDO Subramanyam, district officials, students, and forest department staff, each planted a sapling to contribute to this goal.
