Hyderabad: Professionals from the Joint Forum of Allied Healthcare are pushing for an active healthcare professionals council in Telangana.
In March 2021, the Union Government set up the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions. This law aimed to unify 57 groups of allied health professionals, excluding doctors and nurses, under one regulatory system. It required all states to establish their own councils. Following the Supreme Court’s directive, most states, except for eleven, have formed these councils.
In 2022, Telangana announced its council. However, it exists mostly in name. The government appointed Dr. Vijay Kumar from NIMS as chairman and three co-opted members. Yet, they did not select additional professional members or provide a council office. The chairman’s term ended without completing all appointments, leaving the council inactive.
