Hyderabad experienced heavy rain on Thursday, causing roads and low-lying areas to flood. In some neighborhoods, rainwater entered homes, and traffic faced significant disruptions. Since Wednesday night, Musheerabad received 184.5 mm of rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for Friday.
The rain has been causing problems since Wednesday night, with several places recording over 100 mm of rainfall. The continuous downpour disrupted daily life, leading to severe waterlogging, traffic jams, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Motorists struggled as rainwater pooled on roads. Areas like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Film Nagar, Erragadda, Yousufguda, Ameerpet, Borabanda, Nampally, Tolichowki, and others were heavily affected.
Traffic jams were common, especially during peak hours, at Nanal Nagar X Road, Rethibowli, Mehdipatnam, NMDC, Masab Tank Flyover, Lakdikapul, Shaikpet, Tolichowki, Gachibowli, and Madhapur, including the IT corridor.
Rain severely impacted areas around LB Nagar, Uppal, Hayatnagar, and parts of the Old City. Streets quickly filled with water, flooding some areas. Motorists faced water up to four feet deep in some spots, and parked vehicles were submerged.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited several flooded areas. He noted that flooding in Ameerpet was decreasing due to ongoing drain cleaning efforts and emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of waterlogging. The Moosarambagh Bridge was closed due to the overflowing Musi River. Travelers between Moosarambagh and Amberpet/Golnaka should use the Golnaka Bridge instead. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), four spots in Musheerabad saw very heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 184.5 mm to 147.5 mm, as categorized by the IMD.
