Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy Highlights City’s Rapid Growth and Challenges
Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, stated on Saturday that Hyderabad is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. He said the city is advancing rapidly in various sectors, including industrial, IT, pharma, defense, health, and education.
The minister made these remarks while speaking to the media after inaugurating several development projects in the Musheerabad Assembly. Local MLA Muta Gopal and corporator Supriya were also present during the event.
However, Reddy expressed concerns over the financial difficulties faced by contractors and workers in Hyderabad’s Civic Wings. He pointed out that contractors have not been paid their bills, and workers are struggling to receive their salaries. He also noted that contractors are hesitant to take on new projects due to these issues.
Reddy highlighted that the city’s drainage system is in poor condition. He mentioned that even a small amount of rain causes drainage water to enter homes, creating significant problems for residents. Many areas around Hyderabad, especially slums, still have open drainage systems, and an underground drainage network is yet to be built.
The minister warned that if the government does not act quickly, the city’s drainage system could collapse. He also criticized plans to beautify the Musi River, stating that while beautification is important, it should not come at the expense of demolishing homes, especially those of the poor.
Reddy emphasized the need to first address the drainage issues in the slums and remove silt from the underground drainage system to prevent further problems. He urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to hold a high-level meeting to discuss the city’s challenges and allocate necessary funds to protect Hyderabad’s future.
Earlier in the day, the Union Minister inaugurated the second floor of the Padmasali Sangam Community Hall and launched several development programs in the Addic Met Division and Lalita Nagar Graveyard. Additionally, he inaugurated new infrastructure, including a CC road in Badam Chettu Gully, an open gym, and a stage with sitting galleries in the municipal ward office and volleyball ground.
