Manipur civil society leaders hold talks with Amit Shah in Imphal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Churachandpur, the scene of some of the worst rioting in the recent ethnic conflict which broke out in Manipur earlier this month, to hold talks with Kuki civil society leaders.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has secured a deal worth Rs 8161 crore to manufacture Akash missiles in Hyderabad. The agreement was signed with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The Akash missile is a surface-to-air missile system that is designed to protect critical areas like airfields, vital installations, and industrial complexes from aerial attacks. It has a range of up to 25 km and can carry a warhead of 60 kg. The missile system is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously and can operate in all-weather conditions.

The Akash missile system has been developed by the DRDO and is currently in service with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The missile system has been successfully tested in various scenarios, including against fighter aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The production of the Akash missile system by BDL is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The deal will also create job opportunities in the region and boost the local economy.

BDL has been manufacturing various defence equipment for the Indian Armed Forces for over five decades. The company has expertise in the production of missiles, torpedoes, and other defence equipment. With the new deal, BDL will become the sole manufacturer of the Akash missile system.

The manufacturing of the Akash missile system by BDL will also reduce India’s dependence on foreign countries for defence equipment. The move is in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to make India self-reliant in all sectors, including defence.

The deal is a significant milestone for BDL and the Indian defence industry. It will not only strengthen India’s defence capabilities but also contribute to the country’s economic growth. The manufacturing of the Akash missile system in Hyderabad will also give a boost to the Make in India initiative.

In conclusion, the agreement between BDL, IAF, and DRDO to manufacture Akash missiles in Hyderabad is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The move will not only enhance India’s defence capabilities but also contribute to the country’s economic growth. With BDL’s expertise in defence equipment manufacturing, the production of Akash missiles will be a significant milestone for the Indian defence industry.
