    The Telangana Government has announced that they will establish one de-addiction centre in each district of the state. These centres will provide free treatment, yoga therapy and counselling services to people who are addicted to alcohol or drugs.

    This decision came after the Telangana High Court criticized the government for not opening any de-addiction centres despite the need for them. The government had announced the opening of new drug de-addiction centres in February, a month after facing criticism from the court.

    Before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the state had 18 de-addiction centres in its 13 districts. However, Telangana did not have any until now. In 2016, social activist Mamidi Venu Madhav filed a petition in the court asking the government to open de-addiction centres in all districts. He claimed that the government did not respond to his petition despite many adjournments.
