Anil Kumar Lahoti, the Railway Board Chairman and CEO, conducted an inspection of the indigenous automatic train protection system called “Kavach” on Sunday. The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) developed the system, and South Central Railways has been involved in its development since its inception. Lahoti observed a demonstration of Kavach between Lingampalli and Chitgidda Stations while travelling in one of the locomotives equipped with the system. He also reviewed the Centre of Excellence for KAVACH at the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) and received a detailed presentation about all aspects of Kavach’s working. Kavach is a significant step towards the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative taken by Indian Railways. South Central Railways has already commissioned Kavach across 1,465 rail km (Rkm) and deployed it on various sections across their rail network.
