Kavitha scheduled to appear before ED today for questioning.
The Enforcement Directorate has served a notice to BRS MLC K Kavitha to appear before it for questioning on Monday in Delhi. The BRS leaders have claimed that their party and its leader are being harassed for political reasons and that the probe agency is not following the rules. They argue that there is a provision in law that a woman should be questioned at home, but legal experts say that this rule applies only to CrPC and not to the ED, which has the status of a Civil Court. As a result, Kavitha will have to appear in person before the ED.
Kavitha arrived in Delhi on Sunday evening accompanied by her brother and IT Minister KT Rama Rao and MP J Santosh Kumar. They will be holding consultations with their legal team before Kavitha appears before the ED on Monday. Some leaders believe that Kavitha may skip appearing before the ED this time as well, as she did on March 16, when she sent her advocate in her place. However, the ED has served a fresh notice specifically stating that she must appear in person on Monday.
Ramachandra Pillai, who is alleged to be Kavitha’s front man, is currently in ED custody, and his custody will end on Monday afternoon. The ED is likely to seek further extension of his custody so that they can take up confrontation interrogation of Kavitha along with Manish Sisodia and Pillai.
