NALSAR University of Law is being accused of having a faulty faculty recruitment process. The university is allegedly losing out to its counterparts, National Law University in Delhi and National Law School of Indian University in Bengaluru, when it comes to attracting the best teaching faculty from within the country and abroad. This is the second time in the last five years that NALSAR has faced allegations over their faculty recruitment process.
The university had called for applications for permanent faculty positions in June 2018. However, only 10 candidates attended the recruitment process for five teaching positions, which led to allegations of a rushed recruitment process. This deprived genuine and eligible candidates of the opportunity to appear for interviews, unlike other national law universities.
One aspirant sought a stay on 56 permanent faculty recruitment positions notified by NALSAR, but no stay was granted, and the hearing was adjourned. The campus is abuzz with allegations of a flawed recruitment process.
The university issued a notification for 56 permanent faculty teaching positions on March 13, 2023. The number of positions notified was more than all the current teaching faculty at the university, including contract staff. The job notification was placed on the university website and a small advertisement appeared in newspapers. This differed from other national law universities, who want to attract the best talent from across the country and abroad.
The notification was issued on March 13, 2023, with a submission deadline of March 31. Later, the deadline was extended for another 16 days, but the university allegedly did not give any corrigendum in the newspapers about the extension. A contract faculty member said that National Law Universities usually give a month to 45 days for applying to attract the best possible talent.
The university allegedly issued a general intimation through email about the written test date fixed on May 13, 2023, at its campus in Hyderabad. This was against the general practice of each eligible candidate receiving individual intimations, leaving many eligible candidates deprived of the opportunity to compete. This process reportedly puts the university at a disadvantage compared to its counterparts, who are putting all-out efforts to get the best teaching talent.
