On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new mega textile park in Telangana as part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ programme. The ‘Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textiles Region and Apparel Park’ (PM-Mitra) scheme aims to make India a world leader in textiles by setting up seven mega textile parks across the country. The scheme is based on the ‘5F’ principle of Farm to Fiber; Fiber to Factory; Factory to Fashion; Fashion to Foreign. The seven mega textile parks will be located in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The Union Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy thanked Modi for announcing the mega textile park in Telangana, stating that it would benefit the entire value chain of 5Fs, from farm to fiber to factory to fashion to foreign. Farmers and the weaving community in Telangana will benefit immensely, and the park will create thousands of jobs for youth and entrepreneurs.
