Ramzan Festive Spirit Spreads Across Hyderabad City

The holy month of Ramzan has begun and Muslims in Hyderabad are filled with religious zeal and joy. The Mecca Masjid, along with other mosques, is bustling with activity as people come together to focus on religious observances. Adequate arrangements have been made by various civic departments to ensure a tidy environment and an adequate supply of power and water to meet the increased demand during this holy month. Special prayers are being offered for the prosperity and integrity of the country and the well-being of its people. The sighting of the moon on Thursday night was announced through sirens, after which Muslims thronged mosques for special prayers till midnight. The biggest gathering was seen at the historic Mecca Masjid near Charminar for the special prayer ‘Taraweeh’. The rush was huge compared to recent years, with Taraweeh prayers being conducted under the imamath of Maulana Rizwan Qureshi. Mosques in the city have been spruced up and illuminated, with big gatherings being witnessed in historic mosques like Shahi Mosque in the public garden, Darulshifa mosque, Azizia Masjid in Mehdipatnam among others. Despite the scorching sun, people were seen rushing to purchase essentials before iftar and street food stalls selling fast food and Ramzan special dishes including the season’s favorite ‘Haleem’ were also seen bustling with activity. Citizens observed Sehri at home while a huge influx of people were also seen in restaurants. Several hotels, restaurants, shops, and markets stay open till late-night hours during Ramzan. Muslims not only observe fast during this month but also perform other religious responsibilities including giving charitable donations (Zakat) which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
