Hyderabad Building Demolition Begins After Dangerous Tilt

Officials in Hyderabad began demolishing a dangerously tilted five-storey building in Siddiqnagar, near Gachibowli, on Wednesday. The incident caused panic among residents late Tuesday night when the structure started leaning unexpectedly.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA), along with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), local police, and revenue officials, supervised the demolition. To ensure safety, residents of the building and nearby homes were evacuated before the operation began.

A contractor was hired to carry out the demolition using a long-breaker hydraulic crane. The building, constructed on a 70-square-yard plot, began tilting suddenly on Tuesday night. One resident, in a state of panic, jumped from the building and sustained injuries. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

The building owner attributed the incident to excavation work on an adjacent plot, which he said had disturbed the foundation and caused the structure to tilt. As a precautionary measure, officials decided to demolish the building to eliminate risks to nearby homes.

To maintain safety and prevent onlookers from gathering, the area was cordoned off by the police. An initial investigation revealed that poor construction practices and substandard foundation work were major factors behind the tilt. The excavation work on the adjacent plot further destabilized the already weak foundation, leading to the incident.
