Hyderabad / Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced a groundbreaking program called the National Internship, Placement Training, and Assessment (NIPTA). This initiative aims to connect academic studies with industry needs across India. It was announced in the Shaastra Magazine of IIT Madras and officially launched by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.

NIPTA targets engineering and diploma students, offering a structured training followed by a standardized assessment to gauge their job readiness. The goal is to enhance students’ skills and give recruiters a reliable way to find qualified candidates.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, highlighted the program’s inclusive approach. He stated, “NIPTA is timely with many students seeking internships and jobs. It reflects our commitment to providing equal opportunities nationwide.”

Participants will receive performance-based certificates from IIT Madras, indicating their skills. This certification helps students compare themselves with peers and improve, while providing recruiters an objective way to assess candidates.

IIT Madras plans to share results with recruiters and host a National Job and Internship Mela in early 2026, connecting students with employers either virtually or in-person. This initiative aims to streamline career opportunities for participants.

With NIPTA, IIT Madras continues its tradition of impactful programs that contribute to youth empowerment and national growth. The program is expected to reshape how employability is perceived and nurtured in India’s higher education system.
