Important NMC meeting set for June 18

Hyderabad: A significant meeting on June 18 in New Delhi will determine the future of medical seats in Telangana’s government colleges. The National Medical Commission (NMC) will meet with the state’s Health Secretary and Director of Medical Education.

On June 13, the NMC sent a letter to state officials after identifying issues in many medical colleges in Telangana. These issues, found during 2023 inspections, include missing biometric attendance systems, lack of proper infrastructure, and insufficient qualified faculty. The report also pointed out problems like not having cadavers for anatomy practice and substandard laboratory facilities. Experts warn these issues could reduce the number of available medical seats.

Kakatiya Medical College, linked to Kaloji Narayana Rao Health University, was among the institutions noted by the NMC. Concerns were raised about colleges in Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mahabubabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Ramagundam, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Mulugu, Nagarkurnool, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mancherial, Siddipet, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, and others. The number of seats will be influenced by the state officials’ responses in the upcoming meeting.
