Gadwal: A lively event took place on Saturday at the Gattu Mandal headquarters celebrating the Indira Mahila Shakti program. Organized by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), the event focused on empowering women economically through initiatives by the Telangana state government.
Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy spoke at the event, stressing the goal of the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme to make women financially independent by supporting Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He stated that women’s financial strength leads to overall progress in the constituency.
The MLA announced the sanction of 780 Indiramma houses for Gattu Mandal’s development. Since Gattu relies heavily on agriculture, the government is enhancing irrigation, drinking water, roads, and education. Free fine rice through ration cards will be distributed to ensure welfare benefits reach everyone.
District Collector B.M. Santosh echoed the MLA’s vision and outlined initiatives for women’s economic growth. The government is setting up solar power plants, petrol stations, and women-operated canteens. Women are also being empowered as bus operators. Land in Gonupadu and Alampur has been allocated for these projects.
The Collector highlighted the issuance of 1,700 new ration cards in Gattu Mandal. He urged beneficiaries to complete house constructions quickly. Loans worth Rs. 2,030 crores have been distributed to women’s SHGs, and Rs. 5 crore in loan waivers were processed from April to September.
He announced a Rs. 10 lakh compensation for SHG families if a member dies accidentally under the group insurance scheme. Emphasizing education, he urged mothers to ensure school attendance and called for an end to child marriages.
Literacy in Gattu Mandal is at 50%, with a goal to reach 100% through education awareness, especially for girls. The central government has approved Rs. 1 crore for development projects in Gattu Mandal.
During the event, the MLA and Collector distributed financial aid to SHG members, including:
- Bank loan cheques worth Rs. 7.25 crores
- Interest-free loan cheques worth Rs. 47.96 lakhs
- New ration cards to eligible beneficiaries
Prominent attendees included Additional Collectors Lakshmi Narayana and Narsinga Rao, SERP Director Jamuna, Market Committee Chairman Nalla Hanumanthu, District Federation President Prabhavathi, and many women SHG members, local leaders, and community representatives.
The event showcased the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment and community development through inclusive strategies.
