Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan has proposed the establishment of an Evaluation Committee, which will consist of Vice Chancellors and prominent academicians. Their task will be to assess the contributions made by alumni to their alma maters. The top ten contributors, both in terms of financial and non-financial contributions, will be honored at a special event on October 31.
The main goal of this event is to reach one million alumni. Currently, the Chancellor Connects Alumni program has around 180,000 alumni and aims to achieve a financial contribution of Rs 100 crore. Alumni have until October 15 to submit their data on the official website.
During a recent interaction with state university officials, academicians, and individuals responsible for alumni affairs, Governor Sounderarajan expressed her dream of making higher education in Telangana the best in the country. She wants Telangana students to excel in all academic activities and believes that proper facilities are necessary for that.
The Governor also noted that while there are alumni associations in all colleges, there is a lack of coordination and maximum reach. To address this issue, the introduction of Chancellor Connects Alumni will provide a platform for communication, connection, and coordination. This program can serve as a role model for other states. Through Chancellor Connects Alumni, individuals can contribute to universities or colleges in their hometowns, even if they did not personally study there. The aim is to empower alumni to have a meaningful impact on their local educational institutions.
The commitment of Raj Bhavan is to provide clarity, foster connections, and ensure that every alumni contribution is effectively directed towards relevant projects. This initiative aims to maximize the impact of alumni contributions, whether through time, expertise, or financial support.
Senior professors from Osmania University highlighted how alumni support has helped improve infrastructure and strengthen digital education and other fields within the education system.
