Hyderabad: A 12-year-old blind singer, Vikas Nayak, received a helping hand from TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy, who cleared his family’s debt of Rs 7.5 lakh. Vikas, a fifth-grade student at the Sneha Society’s school for the blind in Nizamabad, reached out to Reddy with a heartfelt request. He expressed his desire to care for his family while pursuing his dream of becoming a collector.
Vikas, from Lonka Thanda, Gandhari mandal, in Yellareddy constituency, Kamareddy district, has a talent for singing and storytelling. He can recite mythological tales like Komuravelli Mallanna and Beerappa in song form. Unfortunately, he lost his eyesight at age three due to illness. Despite this, he can mimic TV cartoon characters’ dialogues.
His father is critically ill with kidney failure, adding to the family’s struggles. Vikas, accompanied by his mother, grandparents, and aunt, visited Sangareddy to seek Reddy’s assistance. They explained that his father’s medical expenses led to a Rs 6 lakh debt, with interest swelling to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Reddy responded generously by providing Rs 7.5 lakh in cash. He praised Vikas for his remarkable singing and storytelling skills, especially his ability to narrate Mallanna and Beerappa’s tales. Vikas also expressed a wish to start a YouTube channel. Reddy gifted him a smartphone and promised to support his online endeavors.
Vikas shared his ambition to study hard and become a collector. Reddy encouraged him, pledging ongoing support and inviting him to perform at his household events. He ensured Vikas’s family had transportation back to their home.
