Hyderabad: The Telangana government is set to enhance the Jogulamba Temple in Alampur with a substantial investment of Rs 382.5 crore. Endowments Minister Konda Surekha emphasized the importance of this project during a meeting at the Secretariat. Key officials, including Planning Commission Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy and Endowments Department Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, participated in the discussions. Surekha highlighted the government’s dedication to temple development, particularly for the historical Jogulamba Shakti Peetham, situated where the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers meet.

The temple’s main deities are Jogulamba and Balabrahmeshwara. Goddess Jogulamba is recognized as the fifth Shakti Peeth among the country’s eighteen Shakti Peeths. She is depicted in a unique pose, sitting on a corpse, with symbols like a scorpion, frog, and lizard. Known for her fierce power, Jogulamba grants spiritual success and is revered as the “Mother of Yogis,” a transformation from the Telugu term ‘Yogula Amma.’

This renowned temple showcases Chalukya art and culture. The area is referred to as Dakshina Kailasam due to the confluence of the Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers nearby. Legend says Brahma performed severe penance at Alampur, earning creation powers from Lord Shiva. As a result, the temple’s god is called Brahmeswara and the goddess, Yogini or Jogulamba, another name for Mother Parvathi.
