Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the president of BRS, showed his dedication to helping others by rescuing a 28-year-old woman from Telangana who was mistreated in Oman.
Afrin, from Godavarikhani, went to Oman for a job she was promised as a domestic worker. Instead, she was locked up, starved, and physically and emotionally abused by her employer. Her attempts to leave the job only brought more trouble.
Afrin tried reaching out to several sources and even contacted the Indian Embassy, but her cries for help were ignored. Eventually, the news reached KT Rama Rao through a BRS worker. Rama Rao quickly instructed Harish Reddy, a party leader from Ramagundam, to handle the situation and organize Afrin’s rescue. With the help of KTR’s office, they connected with the Indian Embassy in Oman. They paid Rs 1,20,000 to the local agent to secure her release. Arrangements were then made for Afrin’s return to Hyderabad.
On Sunday, Afrin came to Telangana Bhavan to personally thank KTR. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “It is only because of KTR’s support that I could come back home safely. In a foreign land, he protected me like an elder brother.” She tied a rakhi on his wrist as a token of appreciation.
KTR was pleased with her safe return and asked about her family’s welfare. He noted that while no government assisted her, their party provided support. He assured Afrin and her family of ongoing help and commended Harish Reddy for coordinating the rescue from Muscat to Hyderabad.
