KTR to Unveil Durgam Cheruvu STP in Hyderabad Today

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has made arrangements for the inauguration of the Durgam Cheruvu sewage treatment plant (STP). The plant will be inaugurated by Minister for Municipal Administration and IT, K T Rama Rao, on September 25.

According to an official release, 31 STPs are being set up in and around Hyderabad at a cost of Rs.3,866.41 crore. These developments are part of the city’s transformation into a world-class city under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The goal is to make the city 100% sewage-free in South East Asia.

The release also mentioned that a cable bridge has already been inaugurated on Durgam Cheruvu, which has become a popular tourist spot. To protect the water body from contamination, the government has built a 7 MLD-capacity STP. The trial run of the STP has been completed, and special measures have been taken to prevent any foul smell. The HMWSSB has also incorporated foreign technology and planted scented medicinal plants to create a pleasant atmosphere.

The project includes a total of 31 STPs with a capacity of 1,259 MLD. These STPs are being built in three packages to strengthen the city’s sewage set-up in five circles. Package 1 will cover Alwal, Malkajgiri, Kapra, and Uppal circles with eight STPs costing Rs.1,230 crore. Package II will cover Rajendranagar and L B Nagar circles with six STPs costing Rs.1,355 crore. Package III will cover Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, and Serilingampally circles with 17 STPs costing Rs.1,280.87 crore.

The first STP of the project, located at Kokapet, was inaugurated by KTR on July 1 this year.
