Hyderabad: October 2, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanthi, is a Dry Day. This year, it coincides with the Dasara festival, prompting the State Excise and Prohibition Department to boost liquor sales the day before.
Liquor shops have been instructed to stock up for increased sales on Wednesday, as they will close for the holiday on Thursday. During Dasara, liquor sales typically rise by at least 40% compared to regular days. However, the holiday might affect sales records this year.
Excise officials have set October sales targets for wine shops, as this month includes the Dasara and Diwali festivals, which usually see a spike in alcohol consumption. The challenge now is meeting these sales expectations.
In rural areas, where liquor demand is also high during Dasara, district Excise officials are ensuring enough stock is available at wine shops to meet customer needs smoothly.
