Hyderabad: On Wednesday, Doddappa, Chairman of the Allampur Agricultural Market Committee, and Vice-Chairman Pachcharla Kumar met with State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. They visited the Minister’s Quarters to discuss crucial issues affecting farmers in Allampur and Jogulamba Gadwal district.
The representatives highlighted a critical shortage of urea in the district during the current farming season. This shortage has left many farmers struggling to obtain the necessary fertilizer for their crops. They urged the Minister to prioritize supplying enough urea to ensure farming activities continue without disruption and to protect crop yields.
Cotton farmers in the area face significant challenges, particularly with rising costs and reliance on chemical inputs. The AMC leaders asked the Minister for support measures, including timely input supplies, subsidies, and market interventions, to help these farmers sustain their livelihoods.
They also requested the upgrade of the Ieeja (Aiza) Sub-Market Yard to a full Agricultural Market Yard. The current sub-yard lacks infrastructure, forcing farmers from nearby areas to travel far to larger markets. Upgrading Ieeja would ease these difficulties and enhance marketing opportunities, leading to better prices for farm produce.
Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao listened attentively and assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to addressing these issues. He promised an immediate review of the fertilizer supply situation and necessary actions for timely and fair distribution of urea. On the Ieeja upgrade, he stated that the proposal would be considered positively, in light of farmer demands and increasing trade.
The meeting underscored the local leaders’ push for improved input supply systems and market infrastructure, ensuring farmers in Allampur and nearby regions benefit from the state’s agricultural growth initiatives.
