Hyderabad welcomed the contestants of the 72nd Miss World pageant with a vibrant cultural experience on Tuesday. The visiting delegates, each representing their countries, explored the heart of the city and got a taste of its royal heritage.
The day began with a lively Heritage Walk through the historic streets of Hyderabad. The sound of traditional Hadrami Marfa drums and the powerful beats of Naubat (Nakkare) greeted the contestants, setting the tone for a culturally rich journey.
At the iconic Charminar, a group of 12 local musicians performed, creating an electric atmosphere. The contestants learned about the monument’s deep history before exploring the bustling Laad Bazar, famous for its vibrant bangles, delicate pearl jewelry, and detailed zardozi embroidery.
The delegates visited several renowned shops, including Hyderabad Bangles, Mujeeb Bangles, Kanhaiyalal, and Jaju Pearls. They watched skilled artisans demonstrate traditional bangle-making techniques, offering a rare glimpse into the city’s unique craftsmanship.
The walk concluded at the majestic Chowmahalla Palace, once home to the Nizams of Hyderabad. Here, the contestants stepped back in time, dressed in elegant Nizam-era traditional attire, and participated in a festive mehndi (henna) ceremony.
Inside the palace, they explored exhibits showcasing royal artifacts, including ancient weapons, household items, and historical treasures that highlighted Hyderabad’s grand past.
The evening ended with a luxurious royal dinner, featuring famous Hyderabadi dishes like biryani, mirchi ka salan, dum ka murgh, kebabs, and the sweet qubani ka meetha. A live musical performance added charm to the night, making it an unforgettable celebration.
Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World, praised the event, saying, “Hyderabad’s culture and heritage have offered a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This journey goes beyond beauty — it’s about building global connections through shared traditions.”
As the pageant continues, the delegates are now split into two groups for further exploration across Telangana. On May 14, Group 1 (Americas and Caribbean) will visit the historic Warangal Fort, the 1000-pillar Temple, and the serene Bhadrakali Temple. Meanwhile, Group 2 (Africa) will experience the ancient Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy a traditional Perini dance performance.
On May 15, both groups will visit the sacred Yadagirigutta Temple followed by a trip to Pochampally village, known globally for its Ikat weaving, a craft recognized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The 72nd Miss World journey in India continues to celebrate beauty, tradition, and cultural harmony, leaving lasting impressions on all who take part.
