The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made a new rule that acid cannot be used to clean public toilets. This rule applies to all public toilets run by the MCD. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) announced this on Monday.

The MCD is following a Supreme Court order from 2013 which banned the sale of acid across India because of many acid attacks. The MCD said that if anyone breaks this new rule, they will be punished. Punishments might include taking away the acid from the premises.

The MCD told all their officers and workers that they must make sure that no one uses acid to clean public toilets. On April 6th, the DCW found a 50-litre canister of acid in a women’s public toilet near the G B Pant Hospital in Daryaganj.
