Five police officers from Uttar Pradesh have been suspended after gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were killed in police custody. The officers include Station House Officer Ashwani Kumar Singh and two Constables and two Inspectors. A special investigative team questioned all four suspects and recreated the crime scene on Tuesday. Three gunmen, who pretended to be journalists, opened fire on Ahmad and his brother on live television. The gunmen were seen yelling “Jai Shri Ram” as they killed the two. The police’s Special Investigations Team (SIT) has also questioned the three gunmen. A three-person committee created by the Yogi Adityanath government is conducting a parallel judicial investigation into the murders.
