Hyderabad: The brand-new Shilpa Layout Phase 2 flyover is ready for its grand opening. Built to ease traffic in the IT Corridor, this flyover connects the Outer Ring Road to Kondapur. The project cost Rs 178 crore.
On Tuesday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan inspected the flyover’s safety features, including road markings and rumble strips, ensuring they meet IRC standards. He directed engineering officers to install these strips according to regulations. The Commissioner also visited the inauguration site, asking officials to speed up final tasks like road painting and planting greenery along the median. He confirmed, “All civil work is done; only beautification and greenery are left. The flyover, stretching from ORR to Gachibowli, will soon be open for traffic.” Project CE Bhaskar Reddy, Deputy EE Harish, and Zonal SE Shankar Nayak joined him during the review.
This six-lane flyover, part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), spans 1.2 kilometers and is 24 meters wide. It is unique for being the third-level structure at this spot, positioned above the existing Gachibowli Junction and Shilpa Layout Phase 1 flyovers.
GHMC highlights the flyover’s distinction as a third-level structure atop two existing flyovers. The Gachibowli Junction Flyover lies below, with the Shilpa Layout Phase 1 Flyover above it, and now the new Phase 2 Flyover tops them.
The new flyover aims to significantly reduce traffic jams at Gachibowli Junction. It will streamline the flow from the ORR towards Kondapur and Hafeezpet, cutting down travel time and bypassing regular bottlenecks at Gachibowli. This will also enable smoother travel between Kondapur and Shamshabad Airport, providing a more direct, less congested route to the Financial District and HITEC City.
Later, the Commissioner visited different areas in Hafizpet. During his inspection, he instructed officers to clear waste under the Hafizpet flyover, making it suitable for sports activities.
Additionally, he urged officers to check the Eerla Cheruvu drainage diversion works and ensure all pending tasks are completed. Corporator Jagadish Goud, Zonal SE Shankar Nayak, Lakes EE Narayana, and the Deputy Commissioner accompanied him.
