Hyderabad: The PCC plans to hold an extended executive meeting on Monday to discuss several issues, with a major focus on the potential for local body elections.
This meeting, the first in over two months, will address the High Court’s deadline to conduct local body polls by September 30. Options on the table include requesting an extension from the High Court, due to legal challenges surrounding the BC reservation issue. A Cabinet sub-committee is seeking legal advice and defending a 42% reservation in the Supreme Court. The party remains hopeful for a favorable outcome, as proceeding with elections without fulfilling the reservation promise could lead to backlash, according to party insiders.
Meanwhile, BC Associations are urging the government to implement the promised quota, referencing the Kamareddy Declaration of 2023. The BC Welfare Association, led by R Krishnaiah, has warned against further delays.
The Association’s State President, Gavvala Bharat Kumar, expressed concerns that delays could increase dissatisfaction among BCs, impacting the local body elections.
In a previous meeting, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy encouraged party workers to engage with local communities, ensure effective welfare schemes, and work together to secure a second term for Congress in the state. He emphasized the achievements of the Congress government and outlined a vision for the party’s future.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that under Congress leadership, Telangana successfully pressured the Centre to include caste enumeration in the national census, advancing social justice.
