Telangana is facing a phone tapping scandal that has now affected Mahabubnagar. New details reveal that local MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy was also under illegal surveillance.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating this case, informed MLA Srinivas Reddy that his phone was tapped. They have issued a notice requesting him to come for questioning on July 10 at 11 AM.
Previously, Srinivas Reddy had filed a complaint with the SIT, suspecting phone tapping during the former government’s rule. Opposition leaders initially dismissed these claims. However, SIT’s recent findings have confirmed his suspicions, causing a stir in political circles.
During the TRS regime, ex-Minister V. Srinivas Goud from Mahabubnagar faced accusations of abusing power to silence opposition. Some Congress members claimed they were forced to join the ruling party and then ignored. Allegations also surfaced of dissenters being wrongly accused of crimes.
Opposition leaders claim high-tech phone tapping devices were installed in a building at Srinivasa Colony, Mahabubnagar. They allege some police officers, loyal to the ruling party, assisted in this illegal activity. Furthermore, it was suggested that conversations were monitored from an associate’s house of a senior leader living abroad.
Before the 2023 Assembly elections, Srinivas Reddy ran as a Congress candidate from Mahabubnagar. Party insiders say his plans were leaked, and some were forced to listen to their own private conversations, allegedly to threaten them.
Now that SIT has verified the phone tapping of the Mahabubnagar MLA, political experts think this could have significant consequences for those who misused their power during the past regime.
