Police chief calls for strict action against drugs under NDPS Act

Hyderabad: The threat of narcotics is a growing concern, and Telangana State Director General of Police Dr. Jitender has emphasized zero tolerance for drugs, especially under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

While reviewing the law and order in Vikarabad district, Dr. Jitender instructed law enforcement to intensify efforts to eliminate ganja and other drugs. He told officers to focus on border police stations for stopping inter-district drug trafficking by conducting regular raids. Dr. Jitender highlighted the importance of proactive policing to prevent crimes and called for quick investigations of theft cases in all police stations. There should be strict actions against illegal transport and trade of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice, sand smuggling, gambling like ‘matka,’ and online gaming. He also advised increasing nighttime vehicle checks.

In his meeting with district police officers, the DGP stressed the role of effective policing for crime prevention and public safety. He urged officers to resolve pending ‘Under Investigation’ (UI) cases quickly and keep a close watch on repeat offenders.

He advised opening ‘rowdy’ and ‘suspect’ sheets or using the Prevention of Detention (PD) Act based on criminal history.

Focusing on the safety of women and marginalized communities, the DGP demanded immediate reporting and thorough investigation of crimes against women, POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases, and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) atrocity cases, with strict action against perpetrators.
