Police Department Reshuffle: New Challenges for Team Shivadhar Reddy

Hyderabad: Senior IPS officers have taken leadership roles in key police departments, promising significant changes in state policing. Sources indicate that most of these leaders are part of the “selected team” of the newly-appointed Director General of Police, Battula Shivadhar Reddy.

VC Sajjanar is the new Hyderabad City Police Commissioner. Charu Sinha leads the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Anil Kumar is the Additional Director General of Police to Greyhounds, while Shikha Goel heads the Vigilance and Enforcement wing. Vijaykumar is the new Intelligence Chief. Their main goals include lowering crime rates and enhancing surveillance, especially during upcoming elections like the local body polls and the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection in Hyderabad.

After assuming office, DGP Shivadhar Reddy played a crucial role in appointing senior IPS officers to important positions, as ordered by the government four days ago.

Due to rising drug trafficking, cybercrimes, and traffic issues in Hyderabad, Commissioner Sajjanar has been tasked with improving law and order to ensure citizens’ safety.

The appointment of Vijay Kumar as Intelligence Chief surprised many, as several senior IPS officers were considered for the role. He will focus on managing the political tensions between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BRS, along with internal party developments.

To combat growing corruption, ACB Director Charu Sinha plans to take decisive action against corrupt officials by filing cases and hastening prosecutions. The ACB has already registered nearly 100 corruption cases this year. Shikha Goel will likely intensify monitoring of public servants due to increasing corruption complaints.

As the new Greyhounds Chief, Anil Kumar faces the tough task of monitoring Naxal activities following recent encounters and threats from extremists in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

Officials mentioned that the DGP plans to implement further changes in policing to address challenges like cybercrimes and drug trafficking effectively, using the expertise of the new team.
