Short-circuit caused fire; government to give Rs 5 lakh compensation

Hyderabad faced a heartbreaking tragedy as 17 bodies were brought to Osmania Hospital after a deadly fire. The hospital’s mortuary was filled with grief, as families and loved ones mourned their loss. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow and disbelief.

Three key state leaders — Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha, and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar — arrived at the hospital. They spoke with grieving families and assessed the situation personally.

Early reports suggest the fire started due to a short circuit. Speaking to the media, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka called the fire “tragic and deeply painful.” He shared that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the entire State Cabinet were shocked by the incident and expressed their condolences.

The government has promised an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to the families of each victim. The Deputy CM also said that the Chief Minister had been in constant touch with ministers and top officials, including the Police Commissioner, giving instructions and monitoring the developments closely.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reached the fire site quickly and worked with emergency teams. The Fire Department got the first alert at 6:16 am, and within minutes, a team from Moghapura Fire Station was on the scene. By 6:20 am, fire trucks arrived. In total, 11 fire engines and even a fire-fighting robot were deployed to stop the flames from spreading.

Tragically, one Divisional Fire Officer (DFO) was hospitalized after suffering from smoke inhalation while battling the blaze.

Health Minister Raja Narsimha spent time with the victims’ families at the hospital. He assured them that the Telangana Government would stand by them during this painful time. He directed Osmania Hospital to keep plastic surgeons, senior doctors, and special medical teams ready to care for the injured.

He also ordered hospital staff to complete post-mortem procedures quickly and return the bodies to the families without delay, ensuring they face no additional hardship.

The city continues to mourn as officials work to uncover more details about what caused this devastating fire.
